The beauty to use black and white

Author: Nathalie St-Pierre Roths

We often have the problem of red blotted skins found in babies that appear on color photos. The harsh light of the flash in cameras is often to blame for this problem. An easy and esthetic solution? Use a roll of black and white film.

The black and white advantages?

  • The use of natural light
  • We can easily zoom on the baby’s face and create a unique photo.
  • A classical photo

Winter blankets

Author: Nathalie St-Pierre Roths

Nothing inspire me more than quilts for the winter season. My grandmother made some and she even had her wooden quilt maker. It was one of her biggest joy in life.

A quilt, it is often the start of an inspiration for an artist. The clever mix of shapes and colors give a uniform product. In the past and even the present, these nice blankets inspire me a lot for my art.

Respect the elderly

Author: Nathalie St-Pierre Roths

One of the most important value to teach your kids is surely the respect of others, especially senior citizens.

On this National Senior Citizens Day, we invite you to spend more time with them, take time to listen to them and do volunteer work to be closer to them.

We leave you today with an old German proverb: “The oldest trees often bear the sweetest fruit.”

National Senior Day

Author: Nathalie St-Pierre Roths

Today is the National Senior Day and it makes me conscious how much I miss my grandparents. Because my parents were often busy with their construction business when I was young, my maternal grandparents have often babysat me and were like second parents to me.

Last weekend, I saw the wonderful movie “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” and I know if I had the same gift than the character of Henry, I would go back in time to spend more time with my grandparents. It is them who pushed me to become the artist I am today. They always provided me with numerous sketchbooks. My grandfather was a born storyteller and he has blossomed my imagination at a very young age. On the other hand, my grandmother did quilt and the numerous patterns and colors she used really inspired me at the time.

If you still have the chance to have your grandparents, take some time to visit them or give them a call. Don’t wait until it is too late…

Childhood Friend

Author: Nathalie St-Pierre Roths

A nice surprise happened to me last week. I love meeting new people but nothing beat reconnecting with an old friend.

In fact, this man was not a friend at the time. We were going to elementary school together and it must have been 30 years since I had his news. He was one of my “bullies” but I know how to forgive to people now.

Because he lost all his class pictures, I offered him to scan and send them. While looking at these pictures, I realized at what point these photos were precious and gorgeous. Even if no one smile on the photos, I never get tired to look at old photos. Whether you know or not people on these photos, the pleasure is always the same for me.

Helping each other

Author: Nathalie St-Pierre Roths

Yesterday, I was talking about natural catastrophes we’ve known since many years. There are many disadvantages to live such situations. However, if you flip the coin, there are also positive elements in them.

When everything go bad, and I mean for everyone, people get closer. They become more generous, willing to help each other and more conscious that their neighbors exist. My life philosophy is however different: I am never waiting for a natural catastrophe to happen in my life to talk to a pure stranger. I think every people that come in my life can teach me something and can even become a source of inspiration.

Fire!

Author: Nathalie St-Pierre Roths

In our days, it seems that there are more natural catastrophes than when I was a child. There is not a week where there are flooding like in China now or tornadoes like the last a little while ago in Quebec.

Since last Wednesday, there is a huge wildfire that is blazing in my area (it is almost contained as I am writing now). I live in the mountains and it has been a while since we’ve had the last rain. This means the vegetations are dryer than usual and become a real fire danger. We just have to step out the door and the sky is completely smoky combined with the strong smoke smell.

With natural catastrophes, we have to live with them and move on with our life.
